A recent industry survey conducted by HealthEdge provides insight into how health insurance consumers in the United States feel about their current coverage.
One in three healthcare consumers is likely to switch insurers next year, the results of a consumer survey report released yesterday read. HealthEdge, a healthcare cloud delivery company, surveyed more than 3,500 healthcare consumers using a variety of healthcare types including Medicaid, individually purchased, dual eligible and employer-provided.
The biggest issues respondents reported were cost-related with 51% saying reduced out-of-pocket costs and 47% saying lower monthly premiums were causing them to jump. This was followed by a call from members for increased personalization from plans, transparency about financial responsibility and a seamless digital experience.
Researchers also asked about their satisfaction regarding benefits, coverage, personalized support and preventative care.
“Intensifying competition and ever-expanding consumer choice in the health insurance market are pushing health plans to rethink their approach to member engagement and satisfaction,” the report reads. “Consumers, accustomed to high-touch, personalized experiences in other areas of their daily lives, now expect the same from their health plan. Our survey of 3,500 members reinforced this trend.”
