UnitedHealthcare is awarding $11.1 million in grants to 66 nonprofit organizations through its Empowering Health program across 12 states to help uninsured individuals and underserved communities.
Barriers that create a challenge to access nutritious food, safe and affordable housing, or to mental healthcare can make it difficult to maintain good health.
In fact, up to 90% of what influences a person’s health relates to these nonmedical issues, or social determinants of health.
To help communities address these challenges, UnitedHealthcare is awarding $11.1 million in grants to 66 nonprofit organizations through its Empowering Health program across 12 states to help uninsured individuals and underserved communities, according to a news release. The states include Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Washington.
These grants will help those struggling with food insecurity, social isolation, behavioral health issues, health literacy efforts and more.
