Collagen Stimulator Filler Trend Fixes "Overfilled" Social Media Look | 2025 Fall Clinical Derm
In this first segment from an interview with Managed Healthcare Executive about his presentation about trends in aesthetic dermatology, the 2025 Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference in Las Vegas, Mark S. Nestor, M.D., Ph.D., talks about the shift away from hyaluronic acid to collagen stimulators, such as poly-L-lactic acid.
In aesthetic dermatology, collegen stimulators are in and hyaluronic acid fillers are out, according to Mark S. Nestor, M.D., Ph.D., a dermatologic surgeon practicing in Aventura, Florida.
This switch is due to two reasons, social media trends and the fact that people are looking for a healthier, more natural look.
"It comes from social media and this whole thing of the overfilling syndrome that that was there for a long time, that people were getting too much. They were looking bizarre. A lot of stars, they looked weird,” Nestor said in a recent video interview with Managed Healthcare Executive.
Collegen stimulators are also a healthier, longer-lasting option.
"What has increased significantly is the use of collagen stimulators like PLLA [poly-L-lactic acid] specifically, where it's improving the quality of the skin as well as volumizing as well," Nestor said.
