Why MASH patients need a clearer path forward

Author(s)Logan Lutton

Built from the experiences of patients, advocates and clinicians, a new MASH patient journey map offers a roadmap for navigating diagnosis and highlights the need for greater public understanding of the disease.

Upwards of 15 million people are currently living with metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH) in the United States. That number is expected to rise by 63% million by the year 2030. Yet, there is no official U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation on screening.

David O. Garcia, Ph.D., associate professor at the University of Arizona College of Public Health, is trying to change that.

Garcia and his colleagues recently published ‘Development of a Patient Journey Map for Metabolic Dysfunction–Associated Steatohepatitis: A Comprehensive Assessment of the Patient Journey in North America’ in the Journal of Patient Experience.

In this interview with Managed Healthcare Executive, he explains how he and his team developed their roadmap and how it should be used to be most effective.
