There is a need for strict policies regarding the use of AI in the managed care space, according to Douglas S. Burgoyne, Pharm.D., MBA, FAMCP, adjunct associate professor at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy.
As the use of AI progresses, it’s important that there are strict guidelines are in place for any ethical concerns that may arise, according to Douglas S. Burgoyne, Pharm.D., MBA, FAMCP, adjunct associate professor at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy.
“[AI] is not going to stop, it's only going to get bigger and more prevalent,” Burgoyne said. “We have to put guardrails policies and procedures in place today to make sure that what we do tomorrow is the best we can do.”
Burgoyne attended AMCP Nexus 2024 last week, held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He spoke at two sessions. The first was ‘AI in Healthcare: From Cutting Edge Innovations to Practical Applications in Formulary Decision Making.’ The second was called, ‘Executive to Executive: Leading Managed Care Organizations Today.’
