Addressing Complex Dermatologic Conditions in Children | Fall Clinical Derm 2025
Lawrence Eichenfield, M.D., chief of pediatric and adolescent dermatology at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego, gives an overview of his session at the 2025 Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference.
Lawrence Eichenfield, M.D., chief of pediatric and adolescent dermatology at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego, will present a session titled ‘Pediatric Dermatology - Who Has Better Pearls?’ this week at the 2025 Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference.
“In my pearls, I have a mixture of diseases and tricks on aspects of pediatric dermatology practice, but it does really go from infancy up until teenagers, because that's the breadth of pediatrics,” Eichenfield said during a video interview with Managed Healthcare Executive. “My desire is to help dermatologists who might be seeing children, but it's not their main activity, and so the messaging is different.”
Two of the conditions he touches on are atopic dermatitis and facial hemangiomas, specifically as they related to posterior fossa brain malformations, hemangiomas, arterial anomalies, cardiac defects and eye abnormalities (PHACE Syndrome).
Facial hemangiomas are noncancerous growths made up of blood vessels. They can be a sign of PHACE Syndrome, which can cause stroke, seizure and developmental delays because of the combination of blood vessel abnormalities.
Atopic dermatitis, commonly known as eczema, is a condition that causes dry, itchy and inflamed skin. Eichenfield will discuss the impact of the disease and what age to begin treatment.
The 2025 Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from Oct. 23 to 26.
Eichenfield will present his session on Oct. 25.
