National Nurses United’s (NNU) research arm, the Institute for Health and Socio-Economic Policy, conducted research on hospital pricing practices. It found evidence of what the group calls “price gouging” and “racketeering.”

Here are the top 10 hospitals with inflated prices (by total charges as a percent of total costs), according to NNU.

 

1      Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center, Secaucus, N.J. – 1,192%

2     Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center, Painsville, K.Y. – 1,186%

3      Orange Park Medical Center, Orange Park, Fla. – 1,139%

4     North Okaloosa Medical Center, Crestview, Fla. – 1,137%

5      Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, Ala. – 1,128%

6     Bayonne Medical Center, Bayonne, N.J. – 1,084%

7      Brooksville Regional Hospital, Brooksville, Fla. – 1,083%

8     Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center, Davenport, Fla. – 1,058%

9     Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa. – 1,058%

10  Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill, Fla. – 1,052%
