Article

Gordon K. Norman, MD, is helping shape the dialogue surrounding the merging of DM with the medical home concept.

Executive Vice President, Science and Innovation
Alere
Irvine, Calif.

He is reaching out to physicians and other clinicians to combine the medical home model with electronic health records to integrate the total health experience. Dr. Norman recognizes that adopting the medical home environment is not an easy feat for small medical groups, which will need to develop technology, special skills, capital and scalable approaches to be successful–something that is difficult to do alone. "By closely collaborating, DM and the medical home can be better than either working in isolation," he says.

Prior to joining Alere in 2005, Dr. Norman worked for PacifiCare Health Plans, where he served as regional medical director, plan medical director and vice president of healthcare quality and of DM for 11 years.

He earned his undergraduate, medical and MBA degrees from Stanford University and also was named one of Managed Healthcare Executive's Leaders in Disease Management in 2004.
