In this fourth segment of an extensive video interview with Managed Healthcare Executive (MHE), Jaewon Ryu, M.D., J.D., discusses the readiness of Risant's health systems, Geisinger Health and Cone Health, to adopt value-based practices and programs that had been developed at Kaiser Permanente.
"This was fertile ground because systems like Geisinger and Cone had already been on this journey and had already culturally embraced the value of value-based care," Ryu said. "They've already embraced the notion of you can do better with health outcomes, creating more consistency, making the right thing to do the easy thing to do, creating that systemness, paying attention to what may have led to the patient landing in front of you today, and being mindful of what they may face tomorrow with whatever is going on clinically as opposed to the episodic encounters that you might see in a more fragmented world."
Ryu acknowledged the need for change management, "but for systems that see continuous improvement, there's a little bit of that already baked into the ethos."
