The FDA announced in October the creation of a digital health advisory committee which will help the agency better understand the risks and benefits of emerging health care technology such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality.
“Technology moves at an incredible pace, and we’re excited to have a committee of experts throughout the field who can help ensure our regulation of these exciting tools maintains an appropriate pace while working within parameters of safety and effectiveness standards,” Troy Tazbaz, director of the FDA’s Digital Health Center of Excellence said in a news release.
The committee is expected to be fully operational in 2024. It will consist of nine voting members, including the chair. The agency seeks individuals with diverse scientific and technical experience.
The FDA is accepting applications until Dec. 11. The application can be found on the FDA Advisory Committee Membership Nomination Portal.
