There will be a greater focus on surgical topics at the 2025 meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists, compared with previous years, which reflects the need for balance within the industry, according to Gaurav K. Shah, M.D., program chair of ASRS 2025.

At the 2025 meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists, there will be a better balance between surgical talks and pharmacological talks, compared with years past, according to Gaurav K. Shah, M.D., program chair of ASRS 2025. Shah cited the overshadowing of surgical interventions by pharmaceutical interventions.

“We have about 47% surgical and 53% medical talks planned,” Shah said in a recent video interview with Managed Healthcare Executive. “In the past, we were about 20% and 80%. We have ramped that up to make sure that we treat, as they say in Washington, both aisles. We need to be balanced.”
