Karen Schulte, president of SCAN Health Plan, spoke with Managed Healthcare Executive in this part two conversation held prior to Schulte’s presentation on June 12 at AHIP 2024 in Las Vegas.

When asked what tips or advice she has for health plans who may plan to do a segmentation analysis and then customize their benefits, Schulte emphasized the importance of data and health equity in that regard.

“It's really about the data,” she said. “Deeply examine the subsets of your population that you serve, and in doing so, you're going to gain a much more comprehensive understanding of their unique needs.”

In response to how segmentation analysis can help control costs and make healthcare more efficient, Schulte highlighted SCAN’s success in reducing medication disparities among Black and Hispanic members by 35% through cultural concordance and trust-building, demonstrating the cost-efficiency and improved health outcomes of tailored interventions.
