Innovation Health Plans, which will serve northern Virginia, will be jointly owned by the insurer and the health system.
Inova Health System and Aetna are partnering to establish Innovation Health Plans, a jointly owned health plan serving Northern Virginia. The companies say the partnership is intended to provide more affordable, quality healthcare to Northern Virginia employers and residents, with Aetna providing health benefits administration and care management capabilities and Inova providing healthcare delivery.
Inova Health System plans to engage Inova and community physicians to focus on promoting wellness, improving patient outcomes through better care coordination, and streamlining access to patient information. Meanwhile, Aetna will support Inova with technology that should make it easier for physicians to exchange information and track their patients’ care across all settings.
New commercial and Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO products will be offered in Northern Virginia as part of the joint venture. They are expected to begin Jan. 1, 2013.
Inova provides care to more than 1.1 million Northern Virginia residents annually. Aetna provides healthcare benefits to about 570,000 members in Virginia.
