We asked the Managed Healthcare Executive editorial advisory board: “What is your New Year’s resolution and how do you plan to achieve it?” Here’s what they said.
"For example, for advanced imaging and ambulatory surgery centers, consider the future market for free-standing facilities versus hospital-based facilities. In terms of physician M&A, worry more about the Optums and Anthems of the world versus other local hospitals.”
- Doug Chaet, chief managed care officer, Sentara Healthcare
“These are the non-negotiables in our lives where we must dedicate appropriate time and attention. I have a tendency, like many, to get caught up in things that are time consuming and less-important relative to the overall value they deliver. My resolution is to be more conscientious in routinely reassessing priorities throughout the year and ensure that I am allocating proper time and attention to those areas that are of greatest value to me as an individual, and where I can be the best employee, family member, friend, and person I can be.”
- David Calabrese, RPh, MHP, senior vice president and chief pharmacy officer of OptumRx
"I plan on fulling the resolution of having better work/life balance by delegating the operations of my five companies to other individuals. Also, by focusing on only critical activities of these businesses.”
-Perry Cohen, PharmD, chief executive officer of The Pharmacy Group and the TPG family of companies
"There is a greater industry awareness of the impact of social determinants of health on healthcare costs, access and outcomes. DeltaSigma is becoming more steeped in the best approaches to integrating social determinant of health awareness into our health plan clients.”
-Don Hall, MPH, is a principal of DeltaSigma LLC, a consulting practice specializing in strategic problem solving for managed care organizations. He most recently served as president and chief executive officer of a nonprofit, provider-sponsored health plan
"How we spend our time each day is a proxy for what is most important to us personally and to our business. The better we listen, the better we can understand what’s most important to them and their expectations around healthcare. This will help us design products and services that meet our customers’ needs and help them get better access to affordable, quality care.”
-Mark Boxer, MD, Cigna's global CIO
